    Why Study Engineering?

There are almost 3000 engineering colleges in India offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in Engineering. 330 of these are Government engineering Colleges; the rest, almost 2700, are private engineering colleges. A lot of them are old and globally acclaimed. The most common entrance required to study for an engineering degree in India is Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and JEE Advanced. Apart from JEE, some of the institutes also conduct separate entrance exams for admission such as BITS, VITEEE, OUCET, WBJEE, etc. The course is constituted by a mix of classroom studies which includes lectures, seminars, practicals, projects/research work and industrial training. The first year of study is common for all BTech students. In the remaining years, students study subjects as per their chosen specialization and in the final year of study students are given a choice of elective subjects as well as provided opportunities for industrial training.

Eligibility & Admission Criteria for Engineering in India

Admissions to Engineering colleges in India are conducted at the national and state level. Some institutes like VIT and SRM conduct their own institute-specific entrance exam. It is very important to decide as to which private colleges to apply to as each private college will have a different system of admissions. A few of the private colleges will use the JEE Mains score card and some will conduct their own exams. Government engineering colleges have to follow the domicile requirement at the state level. Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with an average of 50-60 % in PCM combined. A minimum of 50 % in English either in class 10 or 12 standards is required for all the candidates. The criteria will vary from one place to the other but these are the main criteria around which the admissions revolve.

    1. An engineer can prepare for the GATE exam to get a seat post-graduation. GATE is an exam that checks one’s understanding of undergraduate subjects. A good GATE score can help you get a seat in prestigious colleges like NITs and IITs for M.Tech, which is one of the most preferred courses after B.tech.

    2. If you don’t want to pursue M.Tech, then you can prepare for JAM which can help you get academics and research.

    3. After completing your engineering, you can also choose government-run PSUs and earn good money. PSUs usually check your GATE score before recruitment.

    4. Doing MBA after B.Tech is another career option that you can pursue after engineering by cracking the Common Aptitude Test (CAT).

    5. You can apply for certification courses like digital marketing courses online, certification in ai and ml, cybersecurity and some of the best courses after engineering that are relevant to the engineering field like Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified ScrumMaster, Project Management Professional, etc.
